Best Digital Antennas For Smart TV
The first thing we noticed about this digital antenna was just how well it was selling.
If you look through to the Amazon page, you’ll see that there are over 14,000 individual ratings on it from customers. And better yet, the customer feedback was super positive too. The average rating still comes in at a very impressive 4 and a half stars out of 5.
And there’s a lot to love about it…
It’s an indoor antenna, so you don’t have to worry about it getting damaged by the weather conditions. You can fix it just about anywhere in your home, but on a window would generally be best.
It offers 360 degree multidirectional reception, which should help it to pick up more channels. Including the likes of ABC, CBS, NBC, PBC, and Fox. Then the signal gets amplified.
It has a smart switch which enables you to take it from short range to long range where it can pick up signals from up to a whopping 200 miles away.
The antenna’s technology filters out cellular and FM signals to give you a perfectly clear picture, and very low noise or static interference.
It’s a HD antenna, so you make the most of your high definition movies and shows and see them as they’re meant to be seen.
But it’s no ordinary HD antenna – it has been upgraded for 2020 to show 4K UHD (ultra high definition). So you get even more detail in your crisp and clear images. Perfectly clear sound too.
It comes with a very long, high performance cable, so you can set the antenna up to 18 feet away from the TV. And if all that’s not enough, it supports the Amazon fire stick too!
We love the tech support for it too, it’s available right around the clock, every day of the week.
This is a nice, smart looking digital antenna to put up in your window. But of course there’s a lot more to it than just looking smart!
It’s not just us who love this digital antenna – on the Amazon page for example, after well over 6000 individual ratings on it from customers, the average rating still comes in at a very impressive 4 and a half stars out of 5.
It has universal attachments options, and if you don’t want to set it on a window or wall, any flat surface will do. The SETEK antenna is multi directional rather than directional, and can pick TV broadcasting signals from a full 360 degrees around it.
And it can pick signals from over 80 miles away. You can get loads of different cool channels, like CBS, ABC, Fox, NBC. All without being monthly contracts, or being billed at all in fact.
It comes complete with a signal booster, which serves to amplify the TV broadcasting signals, so that you always get a crystal clear picture, with no interference or pixelation.
And it’s not just HD, but 4K Ultra HD – you couldn’t ask for more detail! And it’s super easy to set up – in just 3 steps. The instructions are right on the Amazon page if you want to check them out.
The SEYEK antenna also comes blessed with great 24/7 tech support. There’s always someone available to help and they walk you through solutions step by step.
What we love about this particular digital antenna is just how discreet it is.
It’s white, rather than the ursula black, and measures just 12.6 inches by 9.25 inches, and is just 0.2 inches thin. And being white it looks so much more clean and pleasant than your ordinary black variety.
It doesn’t have to go in a window if you didn’t want it to though. You can mount it to a wall, or lay it down flat somewhere, or as we prefer, sit it on it’s special table stand. Very discreet and unobtrusive. And versatile.
It comes with a 10 foot long cable, so there’s no need to ensure it stays close to the TV. Just place it where the signal is best. It’s a multi directional antenna, able to pick up TV broadcasting signals from a full 360 degree rotation around it.
So you should get plenty of different channels to choose from. It features Antop’s exclusive built in 4G LTE filter which works to block any unwanted wireless signals, so you get a nice, noise-free signal with no pixelation spoiling your viewing.
This version has been upgraded to include a built-in Smart IC Chip Next Generation signal amplifier, which also helps to get a clearer picture through to your TV. And when the picture does come through, you can enjoy it in full HD. Or if your TV can handle it, in 4K Ultra HD. Cool.
It didn’t make our number one slot though, because although it can pick up TV signals from up to 50 miles away, this sadly isn’t as wide a signal pick up as some of the other digital antennas that we showed you earlier.
If you decide to buy it you should aim to try it out within 30 days of receipt, to be within the warranty. (We don’t think you’ll need it though.) And there’s lifelong after sales support service too, which is also reassuring.
If you want to go for an indoor antenna, but you don’t want to mount it on a window or wall, then this would be a great little antenna for you. It’s a white, slimline device that you just sit on a flat surface.
It’s multi directional and is able to pick up TV broadcasting signals a full 360 degrees around it, and from distances over a whopping 130 miles away when you switch it from short range to long range.
You can then enjoy a whole host of channels, with examples including CNN, ABC, PBS, NBC, Fox and so on and so on.
Once the signal is picked up, it’s then amplified through the antenna’s built in amplifier which has been upgraded for 2020, and passed through a 13 foot long high performance cable. There’s also a special filter to filter out any interference signals that may have otherwise been picked up.
And then your favorite shows are emblazoned on your smart TV in full HD, or if your TV facilitates it you can even get a 4K Ultra HD picture. You can install it in less than just 3 minutes, so you can start browsing through your channels straight away.
Customer feedback has been super positive. On the Amazon page for example, you’ll see that after about 6000 individual ratings on it from customers, the average rating still comes in at a very impressive 4 and a half stars out of 5.
While indoor digital antennas can be far more discreet, as we talk about in our buying guide which is coming up later, some people may need an outdoor antenna rather than an indoor one (scroll on down to the buying guide for more details).
So if that applies to you, then this may well be the perfect antenna for you. It may look like it can only point one way, but let us assure you that it is in fact multi directional, because it rotates a full 360 degree rotation, and so can pick up TV broadcasting signals from all around it.
What we love about this antenna is the huge range – it can pick up signals a whopping 150 miles away. Then the signal gets amplified. You may be able to pick up signals for NBC, Fox, ABC, PBS and so on.
Better yet, the picture comes through either in HD if you’ve got a HD TV, or alternatively if you have the facilities, in 4K Ultra HD. How cool is that.
Just so you know, the degree of the antenna’s rotation can be altered wirelessly – you’re not going to have to get up there!. You might be thinking that maybe an outdoor antenna isn’t going to be able to stand up to the elements.
However, in this case you’d be wrong. It’s anti-sun, anti-storm, anti-snow, and anti-UV. Full house.
We also love how it comes with dual TV outputs, so you can just use one antenna for two TVs, say one upstairs and one downstairs. All without having to go out and get a splitter or special adapter.
It comes with a really long cable that can reach 33 feet altogether. It’s super easy to set up, the instructions are right on the Amazon page, if you want to take a gander.
Speaking of the Amazon page, did you notice that the customers gave this an antenna an Amazon average customer rating of 5 stars out of 5!
Best Digital Antenna For Smart TV Buying Guide
You’ve now scrolled down to the section where, as promised, we walk you through everything that you might want to think about before buying your digital antenna.
You don’t need a special antenna for a smart TV. Any antenna can do the job.
However, we would recommend that you go for a HD (high definition) antenna if your TV is a HD one, which it probably is if it’s a smart TV. All of the antennas in our top 5 picks are HD or better.
Indoor vs Outdoor
Whether to go for an indoor or an outdoor digital antenna depends entirely on where you’re based. If you live in an inner metropolitan area, close to the TV towers, and with good reception, and strong or very strong signals, then an indoor antenna is likely to work.
Where signals are weaker, or of medium strength, then an outdoor digital antenna would be a better choice for you.
Directional vs Multidirectional
As the name suggests, directional antennas are designed to receive signals from one direction. Multi directional antennas on the other hand, are able to receive signals from multiple directions.
And again, which type to go for depends entirely on where exactly you’re based and on which channels you want to bring up.
If in any doubt though, we would say that multi directional is best.
We’re not going to make any suggestions about which channels are or aren’t worth watching. (You’ve probably got split opinions in your household anyhow, lol)
But when we were picking out which digital antennas to include in our top picks, we definitely looked at just how many channels they could pick up.
The more channels you have available the more chance you have of finding a show you like.
When you’re buying a digital antenna, please bear in mind that you may not necessarily be able to pick up every free channel in the US. What channels you can pick up depends on where exactly you live, what TV towers are nearby and how close you are to them.
We strongly recommend that you look into all this before you buy your antenna, because then you can work out how wide ranging a signal reception you need with your antenna.
To find out exactly what free channels are available in your particular area, head over to dtv.gov/maps. And while we’re on the topic of channels in your area, you may also want to check out TVFool and TitanTV for more info.
Any antenna can receive a signal, but if you’re based a little away from the TV towers, you’re probably going to need an amplifier built into the antenna to boost the signal.
Give some thought as to where you want your antenna to be positioned. An outdoor antenna may require some extra items and tools to install.
But even if you go for an indoor one, you also need to think about where you’re going to keep it. The usual recommendation is to stick it against a window, in which case you may want to go with a small white one rather than a big black one. Or you might like the nice round one we showed you earlier.
Alternatively if you want to keep it on a horizontal flat surface, then you must take care to ensure that it won’t get easily knocked over, or get drinks spilled on it, or get damaged in any way.
You’ll also need to bear in mind the cable length, since this will determine how far the antenna can be placed from the TV.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which antenna is best for my smart TV?
This is a bit of a tricky one to answer. But to be honest this depends pretty much on where you happen to be based. Which is because that will determine how wide a range the antenna will need to have to pick up the particular broadcasting signals you’re interested in.
If you need it to have a very long range, then you could go for our number 1 pick the GESOBYTE Amplified HD Digital TV Antenna, which can pick up a signal from a whopping 200 miles away.
You should also determine whether an outdoor antenna would be better suited to you than an indoor one (scroll back up a little for more guidance on that).
The outdoor antenna we showed you earlier has had some great customer feedback, it’s our number 5 pick, the Matis Outdoor Digital Amplified HD TV Antenna.
Or if you decide that it’s more important for your digital antenna to be small and discreet, then we would recommend either the Antop one, our number 3 pick, or the Mexonga, our number 4 pick.
Or if you want to buy just one antenna but use it for two TVs, then you should definitely check out our number 5 pick, the Matis Outdoor Antenna.
